RTTY 8-27-25
The intent of the session is to introduce or for the old-timers, re-introduce RTTY for the purpose of A) having some fun and B) establishing a RTTY contesting team.
Corey offered the presentation. First he gave some history of RTTY and the equipment that was used to accomplish teletype transmission and receiving. That equipment of almost 100 years ago has long become museum quality. Modern RTTY came to being with the advent of personal computing where software became the workhorse instead of the bulky electro-mechanical interfaces of the past. Secondly he gave a brief overview of the software that will be used and a description of its radio interface; which for the club’s purposes will be completely digital. With adequate club equipment already available everything can be accomplished in-house. This will make the experience a club activity and essentially Plug-n-Play with operators needing only minor computer handling skills and a knowledge of the frequencies and methodology of tuning.
The core computer program will be: _mmtty_MMTTY170K.exe found at this URL here or under the Links menu
There are lots of contests available for participation. The immediate goal is to become familiar with the software and operational flow between club members. Then ,easing into some easy contests with the intent of having some fun with RTTY in its practical application.
Contesting will require a General certificate in most cases, but while operating from the club, any club member will be operating under the W3PIE umbrella – and there are plenty of General and Extra class supervising operators that will be present for this activity.
